Finding Miki

Experimental Documentary I | Work in Progress | 2021–ongoing

In 2021, I met Miki, a Thai woman living and working in a massage studio in Tokyo. Five years later, I travelled to her hometown in northeastern Thailand, hoping to reconnect with her. I didn’t find her. Instead, I encountered other women whose experiences of migration, work and belonging began to shift the direction of the film.

Moving between Tokyo/Japan ⭤ Ubon/Thailand, Finding Miki explores absence, memory and the unexpected paths of documentary storytelling.

Field Notes — Thailand, 2026

An Instagram story from my second filming trip to northeastern Thailand, documenting the evolving search for Miki and offering a glimpse into the process behind the film.

I approach the editing process as an autoethnographic inquiry in its own right, reflecting on my position as a filmmaker, the choices I make in constructing the narrative, and the ethics of representing other people’s lives.

Truly living up to my motto:

Travel and (make) art.
